"Many of my works deal with raw and intense connection. This piece, however, examines male disconnection as viewed from a female perspective. At three a.m., two men are drinking coffee and polishing off hashbrowns. The orange vinyl cheeriness of the place glares at them, emphasizing their isolation. I wonder if they sit mute and inpenetrable in the wallpapered breakfast nooks of their wives, behind the shelter of open newspapers in Lazy Boy recliners. I wonder if they are at Denny's because they can't sleep, or they're on the road, or maybe unsaid words are choking their throats." cjk
